11K Cops To Secure Elections In W. Visayas

A total of 11,086 policemen from Western Visayas will secure the May 13 elections in the region.

The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6) held a send-off ceremony at Camp Martin Delgado in this city on Monday.

Brig. Gen. John Bulalacao, PRO 6 director, said the security plans of the police force in the region are all set.

The PRO 6 has a total of 3, 554 voting centers, which will all be secured by police personnel on election day and will also provide a round-the-clock security during the poll process.

“Another team of six personnel will comprise the mobile security team in every police station. The strength of the municipal police station will be augmented by another six but will comprise the mobile team,” Bulalacao said.

“There will also be police personnel assigned to maintain the security at the City Election Monitoring Center and the Provincial Election Monitoring Center,” he added.

Each police provincial office and city police office in Western Visayas has five personnel available for training under the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as members of the electoral board, “in case nobody from the teachers will go to that particular voting center,” he said.

Despite the election season, the PRO 6 also made sure it will not lose momentum in its fight against illegal drugs.

“To sustain our anti-drugs operations we also have 121 personnel assigned with the drug enforcement units,” he said.

The PRO 6 on Friday presented its election security preparations in a command conference with Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Oscar Albayalde.

Albayalde assessed the regional police force as “very much ready” for the midterm polls. (PNA)
