Some 200 delegates from 17 countries will gather in this city for the 7th IMACO International Conference on November 5 to 8.
The Andong City, South Korea-based IMACO or the International Mask and Culture Organization works to preserve and promote the mask culture.
Dawon “Ginny” Lee, chief of the IMACO International cooperation team, said they are delighted to host the conference with the City of Bacolod, home of the world-renowned MassKara Festival.
“We’ve known about the MassKara even before and we’re very interested about how you preserve the masks and how everyone is participating in this event,” she said in an interview, before the opening of the World Mask Exhibit at SM City Bacolod Atrium last week.
The exhibit, a feature of the four-day conference, showcases more than 400 masks from 22 countries in five continents — Asia, Europe, America, Africa and Australia/Oceania.
Among those from Asia are masks from the Philippines, particularly the smiling masks of the MassKara Festival.
The theme of this year’s IMACO event is “Inside and Outside of Mask Culture: Masks, Practice, and Culture.”
On Tuesday, Mayor Evelio Leonardia will tender a welcome reception for the delegates at the Bacolod City Government Center.
In the morning of Wednesday, officials of IMACO and Bacolod City will formally open the World Mask Exhibit after which the conference will open at the SMX Convention Center.
The Policy Forum and Academic Symposium will be held in the afternoon of the same day.
In the evening, the IMACO Performance Night will be held in the mall’s Atrium, starting 6:30 p.m., where the Rion Five K-Pop will hold a mini-concert.
On Thursday, a General Assembly will be held at the Government Center at 10 a.m. It will be followed by a press conference.
The delegates will have a city tour in the afternoon, and a farewell reception at the L’ Fisher Hotel in the evening.
Also on Friday, the city tour of international delegates will start at 10 a.m. (PNA)
