Over 5,000 electronic devices such as laptops and cellphones are set to be donated by the Port of Clark to the Department of Education (DepEd), the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported on Monday.

In a statement, BOC-Clark District Collector Ruby Alameda said the items that are to be donated include 198 pieces of Huawei Matebook D15; 1,600 pieces of Oppo A9 2020; 3,240 pieces of Oppo A31 and other accessories like headsets, power cords, chargers, among others.

According to the port’s Auction and Disposal Unit, in accordance with Section 1141 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), the said goods will be donated to DepEd after compliance with existing rules and regulations and conduct of necessary donation procedures.

The soon to be donated items came from the inventory of forfeited and abandoned phones, laptops, computer monitors, and other accessories conducted at the Port of Clark on Sept. 14 and Oct. 8.

It was conducted in the presence of representatives from the National Telecommunications Commission, Commission of Audit, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, and Enforcement and Security Service.

The inventoried items were covered by forfeiture decisions and final decrees of abandonment in violation of Sections 117 & 1113 of Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The inventory complies with the directive of Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero on the immediate disposal of forfeited and abandoned goods.

Alameda said the forfeited and seized items were the results of vigilance and dedication to service of Port of Clark personnel in apprehending shipments violating the CMTA.

She added that the donation will support the education of Filipinos in their distant learning during this challenging time. (PNA)
