Davao City’s Anti-Drunk Driving Campaign Gets Boost

Mayor Sara Duterte on Monday handed over twelve motorcycles to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) for its intensified anti-drunk driving and other traffic law enforcement campaign.

Senior Supt. Alexander Tagum, DCPO director, who received the units from Mayor Sara, said the motorcycles will be distributed to the Traffic Management Group.

“These brand new motorcycles will be utilized for rapid response in traffic accidents, and security and safety patrols in the highways and streets,” Tagum said.

Tagum thanked Mayor Sara for the city government’s continued support to the city police, ensuring that it remains an effective law enforcement organization.

Mayor Sara told the police to focus on the enforcement of the city’s anti-drunk driving campaign, a traffic violation that carries heavy penalties and hefty fines under Republic Act 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.

Anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol faces a fine of PHP20,000 to PHP80,000 and face imprisonment for a minimum of three months; and PHP300,000 to PHP500,000 and a maximum of 20 years imprisonment for fatal accidents. (PNA)
