Negros Occidental and this capital city have been shortlisted in this year’s search of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) for Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit (LGU).
On Wednesday, Mayor Evelio Leonardia led the Bacolod delegation during the final judging held at the PCCI headquarters in Taguig City, where he delivered a five-minute presentation before the judges.
Bacolod, which is competing in the City Level 1B Category, is included as a finalist for the third time. Last year, it received a special citation and was in the Top 3 in 2017.
Also for the third time, Negros Occidental made it as a finalist in the provincial category this year.
Economic Enterprise Development Department head Lucille Gelvolea said the PCCI recognizes Negros Occidental as a province with good practices as an investment destination.
“These include promotion strategies to boost ease of doing business,” she added.
Gelvolea said that Negros Occidental, being a finalist for three consecutive years, has shown that it is capable of adapting to the criteria every year.
She added that the province was able to sustain its momentum, which is seen to further advance through the economic development agenda of the new administration under Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.
The search sets four criteria under essential indicators — fast-tracking sustainable local economic development; improvement of ease of doing business; investment promotion initiatives; and initiatives to enhance industry/sectoral competitiveness.
The PCCI, through the annual search, seeks to highlight the outstanding efforts and commendable practices by LGUs in implementing good governance reforms to promote trade and investments, employment, transparency, accountability, and efficiency in delivering business services to fuel inclusive growth in their localities.
The awarding rites will be held at The Manila Hotel on Oct. 17, during the 45th Philippine Business Conference and Expo themed “Enabling Business in a Digital Economy.” (PNA)
