The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently implementing a PHP39.2-million alternative road network project that links the major cities of Ormoc and Tacloban.
The 7.6-kilometer Minuhang- Balud & Balud-Duka road in Barugo town has been ongoing since early June this year and is up for completion on October 4, 2019, said DPWH Leyte 2nd district engineering office chief Gerald Pacanan.
“Once completed, these villages will be accessible to types of vehicles, making transportation of commodities easier and cheaper. This will also grant safer and shorter travels for students in going to and from their schools,” Pacanan said on Thursday.
One of the project’s components is the construction of a 155-meter bridge that will directly benefit the residents of the farming villages of Minuhang, Balud, and Duka.
The project aims to support the proposed Barugo Economic Zone in Barugo town.
The road network is within the highway that links the towns of Babatngon and Carigara in Leyte. Babatngon is a neighboring town of Tacloban City while Carigara is within a major highway leading to Ormoc City, the region’s major exit point to Cebu City. (PNA)
