Four new generation of Philippine postcards were unveiled by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) during the first Visayas Art Fair that ends Sunday at Montebello Hotel in Cebu City.

The postcards commemorate the outstanding achievements of Filipinos in different fields:

  • Living Legends: World-renowned Filipinos Series I, featuring bowling world champion Paeng Nepomuceno, grandmaster Eugene Torre, theater actress and singer Lea Salonga, innovator and technology entrepreneur Diosdado Banatao, fashion designer and entrepreneur Josie Natori, National Basketball Association player Jordan Clarkson, billiard legend Efren “Bata” Reyes, iconic Filipino fast-food chain mascot Jollibee, and Cebuanos Kenneth Cobonpue, a furniture designer, and Monique Lhuillier, a fashion designer;
  • The country’s first Olympic gold medalist, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz;
  • Miss Universe titlists: Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran, Pia Wurtzbach, and Catriona Gray
  • Postcards highlighting Cebu: Quincentennial commemorations of the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity; 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mactan; and the Murillo-Velarde map, known as the “mother of Philippine maps”.

“Stamps are windows through which we see the world. Postcards are the doors to which we explore it. Postcards are used to travel to distant lands, promote creativity and arts, express our feelings and emotions, while we keep in touch with our loved ones,” the PHLPost said in a news release on Sunday.

Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio, Secretary Michael Dino of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas, and Undersecretary Debold Sinas of the Office of the President graced the launch at the four-day art fair.

“Post Office is at the forefront of change. Apart from the usual delivery of mails and parcels, this time we will be the bearer of good news, hope, and inspiration to millions of our countrymen in every part of the world,” Fulgencio said.

“As the pandemic subsides, maybe this is the perfect time to inject a breath of fresh air, appreciate the artistic talents of our countrymen, and introduce a new generation of stamps and postcards recognizing the true Philippine treasure, the most valuable asset of our country — the Filipino people,” he added.

Each new generation postcard has a high paper quality print of 135 gsm (grams per square meter), with glossy and matte finish, new improved size of 250 millimeter (mm; width) by 150 mm (height), and is rectangular, except for the Living Legends series.

The special stamps and the postcards can be purchased at the Cebu City Central Post Office (near Plaza Independencia) and the Manila Central Post Office shop at Liwasang Bonifacio. (PNA)
