The Schools Division of Laoag City in Ilocos Norte on Thursday was awarded for its initiative on localizing Radio-Television-Based Instruction (RTVBI) during the Department of Education’s (DepEd) EdTech Awards at the Baguio Teachers Camp.

DepEd Laoag, which got the Best Educational Technology Innovation Program award, was one of the three awardees from Region 1 and among the 49 national awardees.

The localized RTVBI is one of the curriculum innovations of DepEd Laoag implemented to support distance learning and expand learners’ access amid the pandemic.

DepEd Laoag developed a total of 2,539 RTVBI materials aligned with the most essential learning competencies and whole-brain learning system – outcomes-based education, another curriculum innovation to maximize students’ holistic development by activating the whole brain in learning.

The revitalization of the FM broadcast station (DWAT FM 93.9 Mhz) at the Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trades enabled the airing of these RTVBI materials in all learning areas and grade levels.

Partnerships were forged with the state-run Radyo Pilipinas, Sky Cable, and StreamTech Channel Television for the provision of dedicated channels for the free airing of the lessons.

Known for her transformative leadership, Schools division superintendent Vilma Eda vowed continuous improvement and innovations not only in the curriculum but in the overall systems and governance in DepEd Laoag.

DepEd EdTech Awards aim to recognize the outstanding creativity of regions, divisions, and schools in ensuring the delivery of quality instruction through means of digitization and Information and Communications Technology. (PNA)
