The total number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases nationwide reached 309,303 with 2,025 new infections reported on Tuesday.

In its latest case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said there are 50,925 active cases only and of this figure, about 86.5 percent are mild, 8.8 percent are asymptomatic, 1.4 percent are severe, and 3.3 percent are in critical condition.

The majority of the newly announced cases are from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 628, the provinces of Cavite with 279, Negros Occidental with 218, Laguna with 108, and Bulacan with 102 infections.

The DOH also reported 290 new recoveries and 68 deaths. These figures bring the total number of recoveries to 252,930 and the death toll to 5,448.

Of the 68 deaths, 49 or 72 percent occurred in September, 12 or 18 percent in August, four or 6 percent in July, two or 3 percent in May, and one or 1 percent in April.

The NCR recorded 26 deaths or 38 percent, Western Visayas with 13 or 19 percent, Calabarzon with seven or 10 percent, Central Luzon with six or 9 percent, Bicol Region with three or 4 percent, Zamboanga Peninsula with three or 4 percent, Central Visayas with two or 3 percent, Northern Mindanao with two or 3 percent, Soccsksargen with two or 3 percent, Mimaropa with 2 or 3 percent, Davao Region with one or 1 percent and BARMM with one or 1 percent.

“Some 10 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Moreover, 21 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified to deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

As of Monday, the 104 licensed reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratories and 32 licensed GeneXpert laboratories have conducted a total of 3,460,600 tests nationwide.

DOH said it has 23,000 total bed capacity dedicated to Covid-19 patients.

Occupied are about 47 percent of 2,000 intensive care unit beds; 41 percent of 15,000 isolation beds; and 45 percent of 6,000 ward beds.

About 24 percent of 2,200 ventilators are in use. (PNA)
