A total of 93,440 learners from Iloilo province have so far signed up for the national learning camp (NLC) of the Department of Education (DepEd) in July.

The camp aims to bridge learning gaps and enhance capacity in time for the opening of the next school year.

“This is voluntary, including teachers who will serve is also voluntary. This is to reinforce, or as an enrichment activity of their learning in the previous school year and bridge the gap for others,” Iloilo Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ernesto Servillon Jr. said in an interview on Saturday.

The learning camp covers English, Math and Science for Grades 7 to 10, and Reading and Math for Grades 1 to 3.

The learners will be divided into three camps, depending on their needs: enhancement, consolidation and intervention.

The enhancement camp is for advanced learners, consolidation camp for those who need more practice in their previously learned competencies and the intervention camp for learners needing foundational support.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, the 2024 NLC data showed 8,008 learners are enrolled in the enhancement camp; 26,659 for consolidation; and 58,773 for intervention.

A total of 740 schools are participating in the learning camp.

“We have more enrollees this year because we really prepared for this,” Servillon said.

Last school year, 41,483 participated. (PNA)
