The Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 (Western Visayas) has transformed Camp Martin Delgado into a venue for “bayanihan” on Saturday to help the people affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
Dubbed as “Bayanihan sa Kampo Delgado”, Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan, PRO 6 regional director, said the health crisis is the best time for the police to show their kindness and generosity.
“We know that the police are more blessed than some of our fellowmen. This is the initiative of our personnel, to put up this Bayanihan sa Kampo Delgado,” he said.
Some 300 beneficiaries availed of the free grocery items such as meat, vegetables, canned goods, noodles, coffee, condiments, eggs, and rice set up in kiosks manned by PRO 6 personnel.
The beneficiaries are residents of the villages of Concepcion, Veterans Village, Sto. Rosario, General Hughes, Zamora-Melliza, and Monica-Blumentritt.
He said the goods were donated by the PRO6 command and some of its personnel and offices.
Pamuspusan said the activity will be held every Saturday during the enhanced community quarantine and will be extended up to the transition period to help families recover from their loss during the lockdown.
Lt. Col. Vistorino Romanillos Jr., chief of the Regional Community Affairs Development Division, meanwhile, said the 300 beneficiaries were identified with the help of the village officials.
The PRO 6 also launched its Covid-19 official theme song originally composed by the Mandirigmang Mang-aawit on Saturday.
“As much as we can, the police will help but we hope that our fellowmen should also help the government and the people through following the guidelines,” he said. (PNA)
