The Taguig City government has deployed “robonurses” to tend to patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as part of its efforts to safeguard its medical personnel.

In a meeting with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) – Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) at the Lakeshore Hotel Mega-Quarantine Facility on Tuesday, Mayor Lino Cayetano said the measure shows Taguig is more than willing to use technology in responding to the pandemic.

“Amid the pandemic, Taguig has also shown that it is unafraid of technology. This time, to minimize the hazards for our health workers, we will be deploying our ‘Robonurses’,” Cayetano added.

He said these “Robonurses” were created by the Taguig Robotics Team (TRT), composed of students who created robots that were used during the cyber graduations of public schools in the city last May.

“These robots will physically carry medications and other supplies to Covid-19 patients while the nurses look on from the monitor at the head of the robot,” Cayetano said.

The use of the “Robonurses”, he said, indicate their commitment to an effective Covid-19 response.

“We assure our citizens that the good results only encourage us to further improve our systems and look for more areas to innovate. Our Covid-19 plans stretch up to December next year to make sure we will cover the needs of our citizens sufficiently post-pandemic. That means we have time to push the boundaries,” he added. (PNA)
