The city government of Marikina received materials donated by the United Architects of the Philippines-Marikina Valley Chapter (UAP-Marikina or Arkitektong Marikeño), for the construction of another coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) emergency quarantine facility in the city.

Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro personally received on Monday the donations from UAP-Marikina chapter president, Architect Caroline Victorino, and representatives of Boysen Paints, Wilcon Depot, and Crown Roofing during a turnover ceremony at the Marikina Sports Center.

“I am very thankful for their donations, especially to the UAP-Marikina Valley Chapter. This will help the city in building another emergency quarantine facility in order for us to cater to more Covid-19 patients who need to be isolated and nursed back to health,” Teodoro said in a statement.

“These donations will enhance the Covid-19 emergency quarantine facility we are currently building,” he added.

The donation included 25 sacks of cement, 20 plywood sheets, four toilet bowls, 72 PVC roofing sheets, and three rolls of insulation.

“UAP-Marikina Valley chapter itself donated other construction materials to further help the city,” she said.

According to Victorino, they also presented their own design of emergency quarantine facilities.

“Ang prinopose namin kay Mayor Marcy kanina ay ang design namin ang gagamitin sa itatayong emergency quarantine facility sa Marikina Sports Center. And then, the Engineering Department of the city will implement the project once approved by Mayor Marcy (What we proposed to Mayor Marcy is that our design should be used for the emergency quarantine facility at the Marikina Sports Complex),” Victorino said.

UAP-Marikina’s concept of the structure features modular units that can be dismantled and reconstructed together in order to create a larger facility.

Currently, there are eight Covid-19 emergency quarantine facilities in Marikina — three in Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center; one in Marikina Hotel; one in Marikina Convention Center; one bunker; one in Marikina Sports Center, and one being constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
