Censorship By Another Name?

Censorship often arrives cloaked in a professional tone, as seen in the PCO’s recent media accreditation attempt. The withdrawal may quell immediate backlash, but it reveals a deeper challenge ahead: ensuring journalistic freedom is respected in an era when access to information can be easily restricted.

Mayor Junard Chan is urging hotels and resorts in the city to buy their soap supply from local producers, particularly the products of a soap-making machine developed by state university students here.

Chan made the call on Tuesday during the unveiling of a soap-making machine developed by the students and professors of the Mechatronics Department of the Cebu Technological University (CTU).

“As a university known for mechatronics and robotics, they aim that their innovation will be used by the people for fast-track production,” Chan said on his social media page in Cebuano.

He said the soap machine will be used by the women of the Lapu-Lapu City Cooperative and Livelihood Resource Center (LCLRC) to help them in mass production.

“I urge local hotels and resorts to buy their soap supply from LCLRC,” he said.

Chan added hotels and resorts need not buy soap items from manufacturers outside the city as makers here are now capable of producing them for local consumption.

Aside from saving in their soap purchase, doing so will also help sustain the livelihood of women in the city, he said.

He pointed out the soap machine, developed by CTU, will be of great help to the soap making business in his city. (PNA)
