As the clock draws near to “Love Kita Pinas” on May 22, one wonders about the effort exerted to bring various influential figures together in one event to draw 7 million additional eligible Filipinos to register and vote.
Taking the lead for this momentous event is Eleksyon 2022 Koalisyon, a non-partisan, multi-sectoral coalition of over 30 civic and religious organizations and individuals to encourage eligible citizens to register and vote.
The coalition is dedicated to making the “Love Kita Pinas” virtual event successful in a bid to bolster their #RegiToVote campaign that hopes to mobilize citizens through encouraging local voters’ registration initiatives on the ground and through social media.
Paul John Peña, national communications head for Eleksyon 2022 Koalisyon, said that preparation for the event had been “exhilarating” and believed that imagination was never scarce for the coalition which made “Love Kita Pinas” happen in the first place.
“We must break the echo chambers of partisan politics. This is also why we designed Love Kita Pinas to be just as entertaining, emotionally captivating as it is informative,” Peña added.
Similarly, creatives and social media head Kara Angan shared that the preparation process has “pushed [her] creative limits” and hoped that “Love Kita Pinas” will unite different sectors of society to see the importance of voting.
“I think what we do in the coalition is try to make voter registration visible and important in seemingly ‘nonpolitical’ sections of society, whether it be different fandoms, different sectors, or more,” Angan explained.
Angan, an incoming president of her student council at the Ateneo de Manila University, has been instrumental in making the coalition relevant through promoting different voters’ registration initiatives nationwide and setting up discussions with various sectors of society such as the youth and fan communities through Twitter Spaces.
Outside of the coalition, the private sectors have also shown their support for the event. Media outlets such as Rappler, ABS-CBN, and Central Luzon TV will be streaming the event through their social media pages.
Aside from this, event partners Globe and Viber are also spreading the word of Love Kita Pinas to their customers. Ernest Cu, Globe president and chief executive officer, believes that their platform can help Filipinos actively participate in the voting process.
Cu added, “Through the use of technology and the internet, Filipinos can make informed decisions on who will best serve the people and propel our nation forward.”
“Love Kita Pinas” will be streamed live on May 22 at 8:00 PM through the coalition’s Facebook page, digital platforms of media and news networks, and partner TV stations across the country. ABS-CBN, Rappler, and Central Luzon TV will be streaming the event as media partners along with the various digital platforms of convening organizations of the coalition.
The program will be hosted by Robi Domingo, Ria Atayde, Macoy Dubs, and Miss Trans Global 2020 and youth action leader Mela Habijan.
Among those who will appear in the event are KZ Tandingan, Kean Cipriano, Maris Racal, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Rising P-Pop group BGYO, Edward Barber, JM Yosures, Zephanie, Kritiko, Juan Miguel Severo, and Lea Salonga.
Other personalities and thought leaders appearing in the program also include Sylvia Sanchez, John Arcilla, Ricci Rivero, Alyssa Valdez, Sassa Gurl, JC Alcantara, Charlie Dizon, and Vivoree through different segments that will encourage active participation amongst Filipinos to register and vote.
