World Vision donates 150 tents to the local government of Laurel, Batangas to augment the preparedness mechanism of the municipality amid the erratic behavior of Taal Volcano for the past months since its eruption. The picturesque Taal Volcano erupted last January 2020 forcing more than 10,000 families in several Batangas towns to take shelter in 248 evacuation sites, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s January 30, 2020 report showed. “These tents will help us a lot in ensuring the safety and privacy of families when they evacuate from the danger that Taal Volcano may pose in the future,” Vice Mayor Rachelle Ogalinola said. The tent can accommodate a family of five. “Aside from these tents, affected families in World Vision communities will also receive kilos of rice,” Michael Macabasag, World Vision program officer, said. In July 2021, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised again Taal Volcano’s alert level to 3 after the volcano showed magmatic unrest that my lead to possible eruption. As preemptive measures, families living in high-risk areas or communities situated the lake around Taal volcano in the municipalities of Laurel and Agoncillo were recommended to evacuate. Taal Volcano is one of the Philippines’s most active volcanoes.
