Asia’s Best Bounty Fresh takes one step closer towards its pursuit of long-term sustainability goals by shifting to renewable energy (RE) for its source of power in its poultry farms.

Its choice of RE, geothermal, is known to be the most ideal being a clean and reliable alternative energy. It can provide an uninterrupted source of power or what Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the country’s leading geothermal provider and 100% RE company, refers to as “Geo 24/7.”

“We believe that our country is rich in natural resources, which should be used for the benefit of our fellow Filipinos,” says Carl Benedick C. Chung, Senior Vice President of the Breeder Group at Bounty Fresh. “Switching to renewable energy not only helps create a greener future, but it also realizes the ambition of a developed and a self-sustainable Philippines.”

During the first enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, other innovations that Bounty launched included an online ordering site to bring chicken products closer to consumers despite the strict lockdown restrictions.

“Through the Meat Market (https://themeatmarket.ph/), one can easily buy whole chicken, chicken cut-ups, marinated, and breaded chicken products that have become a vital part of our everyday meals without leaving our homes,” explains Chung.

Apart from this, Bounty continues to live up to its promise of being grown farm fresh by ensuring it doesn’t use hormones and steroids on their poultry products even as they constantly find ways to make their products affordable, available and accessible to every Filipino family—more importantly now during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bounty envisions bringing happiness to families through life’s bounty, and this means taking care of stakeholders and communities to ensure long-term sustainable growth and prosperity, which is very much in line with EDC’s vision of a regenerative future—doing business in a way that creates an exponential positive impact on the planet and society.

As EDC remains faithful to achieving this mission of going beyond its needs and elevating its partners, communities and employees to a better future powered by clean energy, so is Bounty committed to its goal to protect and develop our nation’s resources for the betterment of the country, as well as to contribute to the economy’s growth and the enrichment of the quality of life of many Filipinos.

EDC, First Gen Corporation’s 100% RE subsidiary, has over 1,480MW total installed capacity that accounts for 20% percent of the country’s total installed RE capacity. Its 1,181MW geothermal portfolio accounts for 62 percent of the country’s total installed geothermal capacity and has put the Philippines on the map as the 3rd largest geothermal producer in the world.
