The country’s total number of recovered coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases has reached 2,772,107 after 830 new recoveries were reported on Monday.

In its latest case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) noted that recoveries account for 97.8 percent of the total case count of 2,835,154 since the start of the pandemic last year.

Meanwhile, 543 new infections brought the total number of active cases nationwide to 13,548 — lower than Sunday’s 13,853.

Monday’s fresh cases are also slightly lower than 603 new infections recorded on Sunday.

Among active cases, 5,545 are mild, 1,063 are asymptomatic, 676 are critical, 2,366 are severe, and 3,898 are moderate.

The death toll has reached 49,499 with 113 new deaths.

“Of the 113 reported deaths, only 14 occurred in December 2021. About 21 percent of the reported deaths today occurred in November 2021 due to late encoding of death information to COVID-Kaya,” the DOH said.

The COVID-Kaya is a digital application used by health care workers to collect and share data about Covid-19 cases.

The DOH added that this issue is currently being coordinated with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Units to ensure information is up to date.

According to DOH data on December 4, about 1.7 percent of 32,634 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

“About 12 duplicates were removed from the total case count, 10 of these are recoveries. Also, there were 152 cases that have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count as 147 of these are recoveries. Moreover, 102 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it said.

Two laboratories were not operational on December 4 and five others were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

The DOH noted the seven laboratories contribute, on average, 0.1 percent of samples tested, and 0.4 percent of positive individuals based on data in the last 14 days.

To date, 26 percent of 3,600 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 25 percent of 19,800 isolation beds, 14 percent of 12,800 ward beds, and 14 percent of 3,000 ventilators are utilized by patients with Covid-19 nationwide.

Meanwhile, 29 percent of 1,200 ICU beds, 22 percent of 4,700 isolation beds, 20 percent of 3,900 ward beds, and 17 percent of 900 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use in the National Capital Region. (PNA)
