President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday pledged to give full support to the Philippine delegation participating in the 2022 International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Handgun World Shoot XIX.

This, after the Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA) paid a visit to Marcos at Malacañan Palace in Manila on Wednesday morning.

During the courtesy call, the PPSA presented to Marcos its 16 members who will be joining the international shooting competition in Pattaya, Thailand from Nov. 16 to Dec. 3, the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) said in a statement.

The handgun world shoot match resumed this year, after the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic prompted the IPSC to postpone the holding of the competition.

Joining the international competition are Aeron John Lanuza, Alfredo Catalan Jr., Arnel Ariate, Dominic John Santos, Edcel John Gino, Erin Mattea Micor, Evelyn Woods, Francis Paulo Paulino, Genesis Pible, Jerome Morales, Lenard Lopez, Marly Martir, Michael Tuazon, Raphael Castillo, Rolly Nathaniel Tecson and Stefanie Kathrene Lee.

Marcos assured the Filipino shooters of his commitment to address several issues, including the load restriction concerns, which were raised prior to their participation in the IPSC world shoot match.

“I wish to express my full and continuing support to the association for such good advocacies you promote in our local and international sports scene,” Marcos said, as quoted by the OPS.

Also present during the courtesy call were Ryan Remigio, PPSA chairman, Edwin Lim, PPSA president and IPSC regional director and other PPSA officers, the OPS said.

The PPSA serves as the Philippine association for practical shooting under the IPSC.

Marcos is known to be a gun enthusiast and is behind the BBM (Bongbong Marcos) Cup, which has served as a venue for promoting gun handling and ownership.

The IPSC is the world’s largest shooting sport association and the biggest and oldest within practical shooting.

Based on its official website, the IPSC recognizes all the shooting disciplines, including Handgun, Rifle, Shotgun, and Action Air. (PNA)
