The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has sent augmentation support for residents badly affected by the low pressure area and northeast monsoon that continue to bring heavy rains across the region.

A statement from the agency said family food packs (FFPs) were delivered to the local government units (LGUs) of Camalig in Albay, Daet in Camarines Norte and San Miguel in Catanduanes.

“A total of 1,522 family food packs worth PHP690,177.26 was sent as relief augmentation to the LGUs” as of Monday, it added.

There are also 41,486 standby food packs and 50,840 non-food items that are ready for distribution should LGUs need them for their relief operations.

On top of these, a PHP5-million standby fund is ready for disbursement should there be a need to buy additional food packs and non-food kits.

Each family food pack can provide food for a family of five members for at least two days.

Gremil Alexis Naz, Office of Civil Defense-Bicol (OCD-5) spokesperson, said a total of 23 families or 97 individuals are still in evacuation centers in Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur due to the effects of the weather disturbance.

Forty six floodings were reported, of which 17 have not subsided to date.

Rain-induced landslides were also reported in Camarines Norte (4), Camarines Sur (1) and Sorsogon (1), Naz said.

He added that one partially damaged house was reported in Camarines Norte, while 17 local road sections and two local bridges are not passable in the region.

“OCD-Bicol continuously monitors and updates the provincial and local disaster risk reduction and management councils of different affected LGUs in the region. Mobilities are on standby for any possible deployment,” Naz said. (PNA)
