In the early mornings of February 17 and February 20–23, a team from Visayan Electric strolled the streets of its franchise areas and distributed food packs to random people to commemorate this year’s anniversary.

Over the course of five days, nearly 600 individually packaged meals were distributed to construction workers, security guards, traffic enforcers, street sweepers, PUJ and food delivery drivers, and garbage collectors on the busy streets of Talisay City, Cebu City, Mandaue City, Consolacion, and Liloan.

The Visayan Electric anniversary activity is also a way of showing support for Random Act of Kindness Day, which is celebrated every February 17. Initiated in 1995 in Denver, Colorado, by a nonprofit organization called the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, the idea behind Random Acts of Kindness Day is to cultivate feelings of kindness and brighten up someone’s day.

“For our anniversary this year, which falls on the 25th of February, we wanted to do something different. Instead of opting for a company-wide celebration, we went beyond the four walls of our offices to spread kindness and positivity to the Cebuano community,” said Engr. Raul C. Lucero, Visayan Electric president and COO.

In fact, over the course of its many years of operation, Visayan Electric has carried out a number of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives that have benefited thousands of Cebuanos, including the school rewiring programs, Brigada Eskwela, scholarship grants, coastal cleanups, mangrove planting, and many more.

The executive continued, “These community programs created by Visayan Electric are the company’s way of supporting local community and environmental causes, and we will make sure that these programs will continue and be sustained for generations to come.”

Visayan Electric has been serving the Cebuano community for a century and eighteen years. Despite its humble beginnings, the power distribution company has grown to become one of the province’s most important service providers.

Visayan Electric is currently the Philippines’ second-largest electric utility. It serves the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay, Naga, and four municipalities in the greater part of Metro Cebu — Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla, and San Fernando.
