Senate Pro Tempore Loren Legarda on Friday expressed her admiration to the artistic brilliance and musical mastery of renowned Filipina pianist Cecile Licad, citing her as a Filipina asset to the world of classical music.

“Cecile Licad is an undying testament to the Philippines’ contribution to the world of classical music, which has truly inspired a generation of Filipino musical geniuses who continue to shape and advance the country’s rich arts and culture scene,” Legarda said in a statement.

“Our dedication to promoting the unparalleled talent of Filipino artists is a testament to our enduring legacy.”

Legarda issued the statement after witnessing a special musical presentation of Licad’s rendition of Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Pianos Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 23” at the Metropolitan Theater Manila last Tuesday.

Legarda said the event presented Filipino creativity, and the unwavering passion to nurture world-class talents.

Apart from Legarda, Licad’s concert was also supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra Society Inc..

The event was attended by music students from public and private schools and universities with free of charge to support and encourage the next generation of Filipino musicians to pursue their passion and improve their musical skills. (PNA)
