The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) are looking to further enhance their logistics cooperation, aside from defense and maritime security.

This came as ROKN Naval Logistics Command chief Rear Adm. Sangmin An made a courtesy call to AFP vice chief of staff Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Wednesday, the AFP said in a news release Thursday.

“The visit served as an opportunity to reinforce the strong defense ties between the Republic of Korea and the Philippines. Both sides discussed ongoing cooperation in logistics and supply chain management, as well as areas for further collaboration in defense and maritime security,” the AFP added.

South Korea provided the first two guided missile frigates of the Philippine Navy (PN) that were delivered in 2020 and 2021.

Two more missile corvettes and six offshore patrol vessels are presently being constructed by South Korean defense contractor HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and are slated for deliveries from 2025 to 2028.

In the same statement, Cordura thanked the ROKN for its continued support of various initiatives aimed at enhancing the logistical capabilities of the Philippine military.

He also highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation, especially in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

“The meeting is part of the AFP’s broader efforts to strengthen partnerships with its international allies and improve its operational readiness in addressing evolving security challenges,” the AFP said. (PNA)
