The provincial government of Albay (PGA) is expecting more businesses to open and investors to create job opportunities after the soft opening of the new Pantao Port in Libon, Albay province, on Thursday.

During the opening rites, Albay Governor Edcel Greco Lagman said the Pantao port, which is positioned on the western coast, is expected to connect Albay to the wider regions of Visayas and Mindanao and beyond.

Lagman is optimistic about the port’s potential to unlock new opportunities for Albayanos, especially in business, agriculture, and tourism.

“But this is just the beginning. The real challenge lies ahead. I call on each of you —leaders, entrepreneurs, workers, and all Albayanos— to take this opportunity and make it our own. Let the Pantao Port be more than a gateway; let it be the engine that powers Albay into a new era,” he said.

Lagman also gave a new meaning to PANTAO: Progress, Access, Network, Transformation, Aspiration, and Opportunity for Albay’s future.

“It symbolizes economic growth, enhanced market access, stronger connections, transformation into a vibrant economy, aspirations for a better future, and a gateway to new opportunities,” he said.

Lagman added the Pantao Port will help boost tourism by providing access to the scenic nearby islands, thereby promoting regional tourism.

The small to medium-sized port has facilities designed to accommodate various types of vessels, including cargo ships, passenger ferries, and fishing boats.

It features a wharf and a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ramp for loading and unloading vehicles and goods. (PNA)
