The Antique provincial board approved on Monday an ordinance institutionalizing the Katuwang sa Diwa at Gawa para sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita or Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP).

KNP is one of the flagship programs of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to promote agricultural productivity, ensure food security, and increase income opportunities for farmers and fisherfolk.

Board Member Karmila Rose Dimamay, sponsor of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo ordinance, authored by Vice Governor Edgar Denosta, said institutionalizing the KNP is essential as the province recognizes the vital role of agriculture in its economic development, food security, and improved socio-economic conditions of farmers, their families, and consumers.

She added that the ordinance seeks to foster partnerships among farmers, local government units (LGUs) and other stakeholders and implement capacity-building programs on modern agriculture.

With its institutionalization, there will be a monthly marketing or trade fair where participating farmers and fisherfolk no longer have to pay the registration fee.

“The Provincial Government of Antique shall provide logistical support for the successful implementation of the KNP events, including venue preparation, provision of tables, tents and chairs, and other necessary infrastructure,” Dimamay said.

The ordinance also mandates an annual allocation of PHP2 million for KNP operations and activities.

Likewise, the provincial government, through the Provincial Agriculture Office, shall facilitate coordination among the Department of Agriculture, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Labor and Employment, LGUs, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and farmer organizations.

A task force would be formed to develop and implement strategies to promote the KNP program. (PNA)
