Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is hoping for the newly-elected federation president of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in Iloilo City to be a team player as she joins the Sangguniang Panlungsod as an ex-officio member representing their sector.

Jelma Crystel Implica, a 23-year-old registered nurse, made it as president of the SK Federation of Iloilo City on Tuesday, where she ran unopposed together with the rest of the SK officials down to the Sergeant-at-Arms position.

She is in her second term as SK chair of Barangay Jereos in La Paz district and served as Public Relations Officer of the federation during her first term.

Treñas said the president has to be a team player because she will be working with other members of the council and seeking their support when she needs to pass resolutions and ordinances.

In his message following the proclamation and oath-taking of the officials, Treñas urged them to get inspiration from what they are doing and develop their leadership skills and love of country, which are the bases for public service.

“I urge all of you. Make use of this constitutional right to vote for your leaders and develop your leadership skills because your city, your barangay, your country will be waiting for you,” he said.

The mayor also committed a PHP1-million fund for their initial budget.

In a media interview, Implica said her pure intention and passion to serve her fellow youth in Iloilo City has driven her to seek the post.

She said they would sit down to formulate their plans, programs, and activities for the youth.

Interior and Local Government Director for Iloilo City Oscar Lim said Implica can already perform as an ex-officio member at the city council in the next session by presenting her proclamation and oath of office documents.

Other officials of the SK federation include Julienne Jeanjaquet of Barangay Arguelles as vice president; Jason Octavio of Barangay Hibao-an Norte, secretary; Raisen Benedict from Barangay Boulevard, treasurer; Yanni Ysabel Panaguiton of Barangay Obrero, auditor; John Paul Elmar of Barangay Zamora Melliza as public relations officer; and Mike Elumba from Barangay Sto. Domingo as sergeant-at-arms. (PNA)
