Majority of the job vacancies offered in the Department of Labor and Employment in Davao Region (DOLE-11) are in the business processing outsourcing (BPO) sector.

DOLE-11 Focal Person for Employment Lorraine Ugsang said the agency will again organize a job fair at the NCCC Mall in Buhangin, Davao City from June 10 to 11.

Over 1,300 jobs in the BPO Sector are expected to open while some 350 Sales Representative/Associate positions will also be offered by local employers.

Technical support, production staff, and outbound sales representative are also among the job vacancies up for grabs.

Ugsang said professionals in the healthcare industry can expect to explore opportunities overseas as nearly 2,000 vacancies are offered by several employers.

Customer service, housekeeping, staff nurse, and welder jobs are also in demand by overseas employers during the job fair.

“We have been organizing mini job fairs and regular job fairs in Davao Region as support to people who have lost their jobs or feeling underemployed during the pandemic,” Ugsang said.

She said the efforts of DOLE-11, local government units, and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) can be attributed to the improvement in the status of employment here.

As of May 2022, the Philippine Statistics Authority said the employment rate in March 2021 stood at 92.9. A slight improvement was recorded in March 2022 with the employment rate rising to 94.2.

The underemployment rate also decreased from the 16.2 percent in March 2021 to 15.8 percent in March 2022. The unemployment rate, meanwhile, stood at 7.1 percent in March 2021, improving in March 2022 to 5.8 percent.

“We can expect these developments as the region also is now under a more relaxed alert level due to the low Covid-19 cases for three months. At the same time, we have exceeded efforts to provide those who want new career opportunities with options from employers both local and overseas,” Ugsang said. (PNA)
