First Gen-owned Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the country’s largest renewable energy producer, on Tuesday invited health enthusiasts to join the first “Wind Rush Challenge” within its 680-hectare wind and solar farm in Burgos, Ilocos Norte to be held on Nov. 12.

Occupying a 680-hectare site covering three barangays in Burgos, the wind farm is the country’s largest wind power facility. The wind farm generates approximately 370GWh of electricity a year, which is used to power more than 2 million households in the Philippines.

It offsets approximately 200,000t of carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚) emissions annually. EDC is the largest pure renewable energy company in the Philippines, operating 1,186 MW of geothermal, 150 MW of wind, 132 MW of hydroelectric power, and 12 MW of solar power plants, for a total of 1,480 MW of clean and renewable energy.

The company operates in various locations in the Philippines, including Bicol, Leyte, Negros Island, and Mindanao.

EDC, through its subsidiaries, also operates hydropower assets located in Nueva Ecija. (PNA)
