As schools have moved to online platforms and adopted distance learning amid the global health crisis, a village in Northern Samar has prioritized a program to help college students in their virtual classes.

Through its Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Council, some 80 college students of Zone 1 Poblacion in San Roque town have received a one-time internet allowance worth PHP500 over the weekend

SK chairman Junssen Corong said they target to complete the distribution for the remaining recipients this December and plans to implement the program every semester.

“Better online access has remained a big challenge for most students as they adapt to the new normal education. So, we decided to implement this project using our reprogrammed budget for sports activities,” Corong said in an interview on Monday.

To avail of the program, students must provide school identification (ID) and certificate of registration, or any document as proof of admission to college.

“We have no other qualifications, whether or not enrolled in public school, or scholars,” Corong said.

He added they are also looking to expand the program covering senior high schools to help more students cope with the challenge of online learning. (PNA)
