The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Tuesday night no Filipino was hurt in Seoul after torrential rains triggered massive flooding there.

The heavy rain, said to be the worst in 80 years, wreaked havoc in the South Korean capital on August 8, killing nine and leaving scores missing.

“As of now, (there are) no reported Filipino affected by the floods in Central Seoul and surrounding areas like Incheon and Gyeonggi,” DFA spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza said in a text message. “The embassy continues to monitor and reach out to the Filipino community during this record rainfall, the first in 80 years for Korea.”

Korea-based Yonhap News Agency said parts of Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi province were pounded by heavy rains of more than 100 mm. per hour, with per-hour precipitation in the capital’s Dongjak district surpassing 141.5 mm. at one point, the worst downpour since 1942.

The news site, citing the Korea Meteorological Administration, said up to 300 mm. of more rain is forecast for the capital area through Thursday. (PNA)
