The city government on Tuesday commended Jayvee Fuentebella, a former monitored child of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) here for topping the April 2025 Electronics Technician (ECT) Licensure Examination.

In a statement, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the city is proud of Fuentebella’s achievement as he congratulated him for his perseverance to make life better for his family.

“He is from Barangay 3, and best of all, he and his family are a former 4Ps beneficiary,” the mayor said.

Fuentebella and his mother Mary Grace later met with City Department of Social Services Head Richelle Verdeprado Mangga, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) City Action Team Leader Ryan Cezar, and City Link Sweetly Lalisa at the Bacolod City Government Center.

Fuentebella and his classmate Jan Frederick Valenton, both graduates of Technological University of the Philippines (TUP)-Visayas based in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, placed number one in the ECT examination, with a rating of 95 percent along with three other examinees out of a total of 2,411 test takers.

While still in college, Fuentebella was also a Department of Science and Technology scholar under Republic Act 7687 or the Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994.

“I give back all the glory to God. I did not really expect to get that high percentage rating. I believe it is possible if you have faith in God. I was happy when I saw the results. I have fulfilled everything I promised to my parents,” Fuentebella said in a media interview.

Earlier, DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said Fuentebella’s accomplishment not only brings pride to his family and community, but also serves as an inspiration to other 4Ps children.

“Jayvee’s achievement and the improvement of the Fuentebella family’s well-being exemplify the long-term impact of investing in human capital and empowering families through education and support services,” the agency spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.

Dumlao said the Fuentebella family is set to exit from the 4Ps as they have now reached self-sufficiency level. (PNA)
