In time for the celebration of World Rabies Day on September 28, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) is calling on pet owners to have their pets registered at the nearest city veterinary office should they wish to avail of free veterinary services from Sept. 27 to 28, 2022.

Provincial veterinarian Dr. Loida Valenzuela said on Saturday registration is now open and that they are eyeing to serve 500 pets per day on the said dates.

“Castration, spaying, rabies vaccination, deworming and vitamin supplementation, depending on the needs, will be provided for free on September 27 in Laoag and September 28 in Batac City,” Valenzuela said.

Except during the surge of the coronavirus disease 2019, the PVO has been conducting a massive anti-rabies campaign with the help of various public and private organizations.

In recognition of its continuous anti-rabies efforts, Ilocos Norte earlier was named as one of the top-performing local government units in terms of rabies prevention and control with zero human and canine rabies cases, and at least a 70-percent dog vaccination coverage.

The PVO said it wants to sustain this record by continuing activities to raise rabies awareness in the community. (PNA)
