Farmers, vendors and displaced workers in Cebu City received a total of PHP3.2 million in livelihood starter kits, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Central Visayas said on Monday.

DOLE-7 Director Lilia Estillore said the livelihood assistance was extended to 109 identified beneficiaries through a multi-purpose cooperative in the upland village of Cambinocot here.

“Beneficiaries will soon take hold of the jigs, materials, and equipment needed in their respective livelihood projects where each package is worth more or less PHP30,000,” Estillore told the Philippine News Agency.

The cooperative serves as the accredited co-partner of DOLE-7 in canvassing and procuring the goods as well as in liquidating the funds and monitoring their livelihood projects.

The livelihood projects of the recipients include backyard hog raising, rice retailing, sari-sari (retail) store, peanut selling, furniture-making, and fresh-dressed chicken selling.

All beneficiaries are covered by a group personal accident insurance through the Government Service Insurance System for one year. (PNA)
