The National Center for Geriatric Health–Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (NCGH-JRRMMC) on Friday held a daylong tribute to the country’s senior citizens, reaffirming its commitment to provide comprehensive and accessible care for the aging population.
As part of its 15th founding anniversary, the institution reaffirmed its commitment to provide comprehensive and accessible care for the aging population.
Held at the NCGH Covered Court in the Malacañang Complex in San Miguel, Manila, the event was themed “Panangdayaw Kadagiti Señorës Ken Señoras: 15th Year Tribute to Our Elders”, drawing from Ilocano-Hispanic culture to honor the dignity and contributions of older Filipinos.
JRRMMC Chief Dr. Wenceslao Llauderes said the center aims to become the country’s apex hospital for elderly care, equipped with specialized facilities and programs to meet the growing healthcare needs of an aging population.
“Ito yung ospital (This is the hospital) that really addresses the needs of our elderly. With this, we have a specific hospital that will be able to cater to their needs and let them feel that they are still part of the services of our government,” he said.
Among the services highlighted during the event were the hospital’s senior daycare program, designed to support the mental wellness of older adults, and its rehabilitation medicine unit, which assists patients recovering from stroke and other degenerative conditions.
Llauderes said these services, including maintenance medication for chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis, are offered free of charge to senior citizens.
“We want to be the apex hospital that becomes the hub of all elderly-related services, from preventive care to inpatient treatment,” he said, adding that the facility currently sees 150 to 200 elderly outpatients daily.
The celebration also showcased the hospital’s full range of geriatric services, including outpatient consultations, diagnostic testing, and laboratory procedures as well as in-patient and specialized care in cardiology, neurology, urology, ENT, gynecology, dermatology, ophthalmology, and oncology.
With a growing population of Filipino senior citizens, estimated between 10 to 20 million, the NCGH-JRRMMC continues to expand its mission as a center of excellence in geriatric care. (PNA)
