Addressing the perennial problem of brownouts, the provincial government of Occidental Mindoro province on Sunday delivered solar street lights to several villages of Lubang Island, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said.
The province constantly suffers from power outages, especially during the summer season when the demand for electricity is high and supply is low.
Mario Mulingbayan Jr., PDRRMO head, said in an interview on Sunday that the delivery and pending installation of the solar lights “is part of disaster preparedness” and to improve security.
The delivery of the street lamps was in response to earlier requests of village chiefs, he noted.
Solar-powered lights are known to be environment-friendly and inexpensive.
Mailyn Legaspi, team leader of PDRRMO’s Lubang sub-office, thanked agencies that threw their support behind the streetlighting project.
The provincial government said it will continue to install solar streetlights in different villages, schools and hospitals. (PNA)
