The Stabilization Committee tasked by the World Aquatics (formerly FINA) Bureau to oversee swimming in the Philippines has announced the conduct of an open tryout to determine the composition of the team going to the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games.

The tryout is scheduled on Feb. 18 and 19 at the New Clark City Aquatics Center in Capas, Tarlac.

A FINA directive dated Dec. 3, 2022 ordered the creation of the Stabilization Committee after it withdrew its recognition on the Philippine Swimming Inc.

The Stabilization Committee is composed of Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) legal head lawyer Wharton Chan and deputy secretary general Valeriano “Bones” Floro and Bases Conversion Development Authority senior vice president Arrey Perez.

“The Stabilization Committee will supervise and manage the qualifiers or tryouts which is open to all athletes, clubs and stakeholders,” Floro said in a press release distributed to the media on Thursday.

The tryouts are in swimming, diving and water polo — which are in the program of the Cambodia SEA Games scheduled from May 5 to 17.

Floro said the qualifying tournament will be conducted according to the SEA Games technical handbook.

A total of 20 events will be contested in swimming, two in water polo (men and women) and the individual 3-meter springboard and platform for men and women in diving.

The events in swimming are men’s and women’s freestyle (50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m); backstroke (50m, 100m and 200m); breaststroke (50m, 100m and 200m); butterfly (50m, 100m and 200m); individual medley (200m and 400m); freestyle relay (4x100m and 4x200m) and freestyle (women’s 800m and men’s 1,500m); and 4×100 meters medley relay for men, women and mixed team.
