The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Thursday said at least 110,359 operators of public utility vehicles (PUVs) have received direct cash subsidy from the government since Monday.

In a Facebook post, the LTFRB said these PUV operators have now received a total of PHP717,333,500 in direct cash subsidy — PHP6,500 each through the Pantawid Pasada Program cash cards, the Land Bank of the Philippines or other banks with PESONet and INSTAPay

“Patuloy naman ang pamamahagi ng LTFRB ng subsidiya sa mga PUV operators sa ilalim ng Direct Cash Subsidy Program (The LTFRB continues to distribute subsidies to PUV operators under the Direct Cash Subsidy Program),” the LTFRB said.

Earlier, it said at least 178,000 PUVs are included in the program — 120,000 jeepneys, 21,998 buses, 24,374 UV Express units, 10,188 Filcabs, 1,259 mini buses, and 426 point-to-point buses.

On Monday, the LTFRB launched the subsidy program that aims to help select PUV operators in different parts of the country.

The program, allotted with some PHP1.6 billion in funding, was approved under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act or the “Bayanihan II” Act. (PNA)
