The construction of the PHP35.7-million slope protection project in Caibiran, Biliran has been completed, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Monday.

Chief of DPWH-Biliran, David Adongay Jr., said the project was implemented in three road sections prone to road slips and landslides in Tomalistis village, along the Biliran Circumferential Road (BCR).

“Motorists are now enjoying a wider and safer travel as this would prevent further road slips and landslides along this road section, protecting the existing national road from future damage,” he said in a statement.

The project involves construction of 2,002 meters of gravity wall (slope protection) on the left side of the road, including re-blocking and paving of the shoulder.

“With this, motorists can always have an alternative route along the BCR when other road sections would be close to traffic,” Adongay said.

He added the project would also generate government savings from rehabilitating damaged pavement due to slips and soil collapse.

Caibiran, is a fifth-class town about 126 kms. away from Tacloban City, the regional capital. (PNA)
