A total of 789 passengers are stranded in 58 ports nationwide as bad weather caused by Typhoon Inday (international name Bavi) and the enhanced southwest monsoon halted maritime travel on Friday.
In an advisory, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said these passengers include truck drivers and cargo helpers of 249 rolling cargoes.
Thirteen vessels and 33 motor bancas were stranded in various ports, while 158 vessels and 145 motor bancas were taking shelter.
Most of the stranded passengers were in the Southern Tagalog region, with 271 passengers and 23 rolling cargoes in the ports of Real, Jomalig, Dinahican, Panukulan, Lucena, Alabat, Roxas, Pola, Romblon, San Agustin, Looc, Batangas, Bauan, Balayan, Tingloy, Lemery, Anilao, and Balanacan.
Meanwhile, 109 vessels and 118 motor bancas were taking shelter in these ports.
On the other hand, no passengers were stranded, but vessels were taking shelter at the ports in North Western Luzon, North Eastern Luzon, and Southern Visayas.
In North Western Luzon, 16 vessels were taking shelter in ports in the vicinity of Agoo, Lingayen Gulf, Sual, Magsaysay, Salomague, PPA Port Onri, Pasuquin, and Laoag.
In North Eastern Luzon, eight motor bancas were taking shelter at the Mahatao Shelter Port.
In Southern Visayas, two vessels were taking shelter at the ports of Sibulan and the vicinity of Maria.
Meanwhile, 130 passengers and one vessel were stranded at Bongao Pier in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
In Palawan, 64 passengers and four vessels were stranded in barangay ports in Cuyo, Coron, and El Nido.
In Central Visayas, 94 passengers, 97 rolling cargoes, six vessels, and 30 motor bancas were stranded in the ports of Polambato, Daanbantayan, Mainit, Taloot, Talibon, Ubay, Popo, Mabini, Cogtong Bay, Tapal, Hagutapay, Pilar, and Poro.
A total of 18 vessels and 17 motor bancas were also taking shelter in these ports.
In Western Visayas, 138 passengers and 108 rolling cargoes were stranded in the ports of Caticlan Jetty, Parola, and Lapuz.
Five vessels and one motor banca were taking shelter in these ports.
In the Bicol Region, 92 passengers, 21 rolling cargoes, two vessels, and three motor bancas were stranded in the ports of Pasacao, Cataingan, Mintac, Aroroy, San Pascual, San Jacinto, Monreal, San Fernando, and Lagundi.
Eight vessels and one motor banca were taking shelter in these ports.
Emergency response
Aside from monitoring maritime conditions, the PCG has also delivered emergency services to several parts of the country.
The PCG District North Eastern Luzon delivered 500 family food packs to affected communities, mainly fisherfolk, in Santa Ana, Cagayan amid the typhoon. (PNA)
