Beauty queens and Queentuhan hosts Pia Wurtzbach, Carla Lizardo, and Bianca Guidotti have set up a month-long campaign to raise funds to support the programs of Save the Children. Donations collected will provide children and their families with a month’s supply of hygiene essentials and clean water that will help keep them protected from illnesses such as COVID-19.

Over 1.8 million COVID-19 cases have been reported in the Philippines as of August 2021. Community quarantine has been placed in different areas in the country for at least 17 months which resulted to households losing their sources of income, making it difficult to purchase basic essentials.

“I want to highlight how important clean water and hygiene essentials are especially during a pandemic. These are things that we tend to take for granted but are crucial in staying healthy,” said Guidotti.

The fundraiser was launched by the end of July through a Facebook Live wherein the three hosts talked about the importance of the program they are supporting and shared the different channels the public can send in their donations such as through SimplyGiving, GCash, PayMaya, Paypal, and BDO. They were joined by Save the Children ambassadors Ria Atayde and Liza Soberano in this episode.

“We are teaming up once again with Save the Children to help children affected by this pandemic. Any amount really helps, so we’re encouraging everyone who can to donate,” said Lizardo. Save the Children was one of the organizations supported by the fundraising efforts of the Queentuhan show in 2020, aiding communities affected by Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.

The current Queentuhan fundraiser, which will run until the end of August, has raised Php 216,444 as of this writing. “All of the proceeds from our Queentulungan this August will go to Save the Children. We have donated from our own pockets too, but if other people can support this fundraiser then we can help more children and their families,” shared Wurtzbach through her Instagram stories.

Wurtzbach, Lizardo, and Guidotti have supported Save the Children’s campaigns and programs for the past years through regular donations, event hosting, online storytelling, and emergency fundraisers among others. Their ongoing fundraiser is part of the “I Pledge to Save the Children” campaign in celebration of the organization’s 40th year in the Philippines.

“We are grateful for Pia, Carla, and Bianca’s commitment to protect and promote the rights of children by supporting our programs and campaigns. They have been instrumental in raising awareness and inspiring action to address the issues and needs of children in the country,” said Judy Malabanan, Save the Children’s Individual Giving Manager.

Donations are still accepted through the Queentuhan fundraiser at bit.ly/QueentuhanPledge.
