Central Visayas’ observance of the Holy Week was generally peaceful, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO-7).

Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, in a statement Sunday said that the regional police has “properly managed this year’s observance” of the religious holidays through its “effective security deployment plan and strategic initiatives.”

Aberin said that the PRO-7 also established police assistance desks in areas where Catholic faithful converged for religious rituals.

The police also posted safety tips on social media, suggesting to netizens the best way to have a safe and peaceful Lenten celebration.

“I can see that in every significant accomplishment of PRO-7 comes a stimulation that drives to a future of a community full of “active bystanderships” with quick and effective response intervention practices for a safer and more peaceful region,” Aberin said, as commended the police force in the region.

The top police official here also lauded other law enforcement agencies and the people in the region “for complementing the efforts in providing maximum security for the Central Visayas community.”

About a hundred police officers led by PRO-7 deputy chief for operations, Col. Noel Flores, rode bikes on Holy Thursday to visit Cebu’s major churches to boost safety and security in religious sites during the Holy Week.

Meanwhile, Minglanilla Mayor Rajiv Enad said the Sugat-Kabanhawan (resurrection encounter) was successfully held on Easter Sunday with an estimated 27,000 people joining the festival at the town’s sports oval.

Although, security officials closed down the entrance to the festival venue for crowd control and security purposes due to the huge turnout of spectators, the Kabanhawan Festival was peaceful. (PNA)
