The Department of Tourism in Cordillera Administrative Region (DOT-CAR) on Wednesday said stakeholders of the tourism industry are getting ready for the influx of tourists as new attractions and destinations open in time for summer.

“April may mga holidays tayo may mga events din tayo sa Baguio so pinaghahandaan natin yan, nakikipag usap tayo sa kapulisan kasi importante dyan ang management ng traffic, kailangan ma-establish ang efficient traffic. Safety and security ng lahat. Ito naman ginagawan ng LGU (local government unit) kaya may help desk (We have several holidays in April and we have events in Baguio that we are preparing for, discussing with the police the establishment of an efficient traffic management aside from the safety and security of all, which is the concern of the LGU, the reason there are help desks). Tourists can approach help desks. Ang DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) may ‘Lakbay-alalay’ (The DPWH has a motorist assistance program, the “Lakbay Alalay”),” DOT-CAR Director Jovita Ganongan said.

She said April and May are peak tourism months in the Cordillera, aside from December.

She added that the Tourist Police is also ready to be deployed at the parks and tourist destinations to assist the public in general.

Ganongan said the tourism season plans and strategies are in place and have been institutionalized by the different stakeholders, including government offices, and these only need to be reactivated.

She said several new destinations and attractions have opened in the different parts of the region which people can visit during summer and the long holiday breaks.

“We have to continue promoting so that the people will not all converge in one place that will cause crowding. We can give alternative destinations close to the popular ones so that there will be diversities of places to see,” Ganongan said.

She also advised the public to be responsible tourists by ensuring their personal safety.

DOT-CAR record showed there were 699 accredited tourism enterprises in the region listed in 2024 in the six provinces and two cities.

Among the events lined up for summer by the DOT-CAR are the 6th Mangan Taku from April 24 to 28 following the Holy Week and Summer Vacation (SumVac) activities of the different local government units. (PNA)
