President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to embody the spirit of a “Bagong Pilipino” (New Filipino) in 2025, emphasizing discipline, excellence, and love for the nation.

In his new year vlog uploaded on Sunday, Marcos shared his vision for a stronger, more unified Philippines by highlighting the qualities every Filipino should adopt to transform into better versions of themselves and help the nation rise.

Marcos emphasized that discipline is key to building a better country, defining a “Bagong Pilipino” as someone who practices discipline in every aspect of life.

“Disiplinado sa sarili, disiplinado sa sariling tahanan, at disiplinado sa lansangan (Self-disciplined, disciplined at home and disciplined on the streets),” he said.

From sticking to health and fitness goals to managing finances wisely, the President called for discipline in even the smallest details of daily life.

“Disiplina sa paghawak ng gadget, disiplina sa pagmamarites, sa pagsasalita, pagda-drive, sa pagtatapon ng basura (Discipline in handling gadgets, avoiding gossip, discipline in driving, speaking, and throwing of garbage),” he added.

The Chief Executive then pivoted to the importance of a culture of excellence and made it clear that Filipinos should not settle for mediocrity.

“Magaling tayo kaya dapat ilagay na natin sa ating pag-iisip. Ngayon, hindi na pwede ang pwede na (We are excellent so we should put it in our thinking. Now, what is good enough is not enough),” he said.

He vowed to continuously support and honor Filipinos who excel in their chosen fields.

Patriotism, love of country

Finally, Marcos underscored the importance of patriotism.

“Ang Bagong Pilipino ay mapagmahal sa bayan (The New Filipino is patriotic). There is a renewed sense of patriotism,” he said, urging Filipinos to include love for their country in their new year’s resolutions.

“Dapat sa ating mga new year’s resolution, lagi natin isama ang pagmamahal sa bayan (In our New Year’s resolutions, we should always include love for the country),” he went on.

He said love for the country may be shown through small acts of serving the community and helping those in need.

“Ang Bagong Pilipino ay disiplinado, mahusay at higit sa lahat. mapagmahal at sa bayan, mapagmahal sa kapwa Pilipino. Ito sana ang mga katangiang isasabuhay natin ngayong bagong taon (The New Filipino is disciplined, excellent, and most of all. patriotic and compassionate. I hope that these are the qualities we will live by this New Year),” he said.

PBBM’s resolution: Healthier body

In the same vlog, Marcos shared his personal 2025 esolution: To have a healthier and stronger body.

“Ang aking new year’s resolution ay mas alagaan ko ang aking kalusugan (My new year’s resolution is to take better care of my health),” he said.

“Dahil sa dami ng aking ginagawa, bawal talaga magkasakit. Bawal talaga na hindi makapasok. Bawal talaga na hindi maayos at maliwanag ang pag-iisip (Because of the amount of work I do, it’s really forbidden to get sick. It is forbidden not to go to work. It is absolutely forbidden to not have a clear and sound mind),” the President said. (PNA)
