A PHP209-million farm-to-market road (FMR) with bridges in New Corella, Davao del Norte, is seen to provide better linkages among barangays through mobility and market access, an official from the Department of Agriculture- Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) said Thursday.

DA-PRDP Support Office Mindanao Director Abel James Monteagudo hailed the Davao del Norte provincial government and New Corella town for successfully implementing the Poblacion – Limbaan -Suawon – Macgum FMR with bridges subproject. It was turned over to the municipality on Wednesday.

Monteagudo, also concurrent DA-11 director, said the 15.3-kilometer road project was constructed across the Limbaan Creek north or upstream of the New Corella Poblacion channel.

“Farmers no longer have to endure the difficult transportation of their harvested agricultural produce even during the rainy season,” he said.

He said the infrastructure aims to hasten economic growth, reduce transportation costs of passengers and commodities, reduce post-harvest losses, increase agricultural production, increase the number of vehicles or traffic count, reduce travel time, and foster social service delivery.

For his part, Governor Edwin Jubahib thanked all the landowners who agreed to settle the road right of way to materialize the project. (PNA)
