As the country celebrates the 8th National Bible Day, Senator Joel Villanueva urged Filipinos to deepen their faith and ensure that biblical principles guide the nation’s laws and policies.
“Isa pong napakalaking biyaya ang araw na ito sapagkat damang-dama po natin ang pag-ibig at pagsama ng ating Panginoong Diyos sa sambayanang Pilipino (This day is a great blessing as we feel the love and presence of our Lord God among the Filipino people),” Villanueva said in a video message, emphasizing the significance of Republic Act 11163, which institutionalized National Bible Day in the Philippines.
Villanueva highlighted the country’s strong faith in God, reflected in the Preamble of the Constitution, which invokes the aid of Almighty God.
He asserted that this refers to the God of the Bible, whose teachings should remain a cornerstone of national governance.
“Malaki po ang pananagutan nating mga Kristiyano na tiyakin na ang Bibliya ang pangunahing batayan ng mga batas sa ating bayan (As Christians, we have a great responsibility to ensure that the Bible serves as the foundation of our nation’s laws),” Villanueva said.
He also urged Filipinos to bring the Bible’s teachings into their homes, schools, workplaces, and government offices.
Celebrated every last Monday of January, Villanueva hoped that the National Bible Day celebrations would inspire a stronger commitment among Filipinos to the teachings of the Bible in all aspects of life. (PNA)
