The PHP300 million solar photovoltaic system for streetlights project of the provincial government will benefit an initial 300 villages in Antique.

“This solar photovoltaic project is our provincial government’s move towards investing in renewable energy,” Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao said in an interview Tuesday.

She said the captains of recipient villages were already briefed about the project, following the approval of the funding requirement by the provincial board.

The first batch of 179 punong barangay (village chiefs) attended the orientation on Oct. 22, while the second set of 151 participants joined the briefing on Monday.

The recipients must submit a village resolution and other needed documents for the release of their PHP1 million allocation.

The village, through the government procurement system, will purchase their needed materials.

Cadiao hoped the provincial board would allocate an additional budget for the remaining 290 villages for the safety of residents and commuters. (PNA)
