The Filipino-born and raised in United States stunt coordinator Robert Alonzo is liable for the tense fight scenes in The Batman film starring Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz.

In addition to being the stunt coordinator at Warner Bros. Alonzo has worked as a second unit director for many Hollywood films, including Oblivion with Tom Cruise, Incredibles 2, Tomorrowland, Deadpool, and J.J. Star Trek by J.J. Abrams.

Alonzo revealed that he studied each character and their respective journeys throughout the story in order to design movement based not only on their physical attributes, but also on their emotional state for each specific moment. Every move had a purpose, and he avoided inefficient action that was action for the sake of action.

Pattinson also had to learn Filipino martial arts and arnis in order to play Batman more convincingly. This revelation was shared by Alonzo. He went on to say that the goal of his fight training with Pattinson was to allow the threat to come in much closer than he was used to in order to eliminate anticipatory movement and increase his close proximity reactivity. With this as his primary goal, he trained him in FMA techniques such as muay thai, boxing, kickboxing, and others.

Kravitz and Alonzo have known each other since the former began taking taekwondo classes at the age of seven. Alonzo revealed that he has known Kravitz for quite some time. She was one of his regular group class students who also took private lessons with him on a regular basis. Furthermore, he stated that Kravitz was talented, driven, and focused despite her young age. During their first training session, the two also have a reunion for The Batman.

Alonzo has a great style as a stunt coordinator, according to the Batman actor, and he learned certain signature moves that helped him quickly build into different patterns.

Kravitz also complimented the Filipino stunt coordinator, saying that he was concerned about everything remaining grounded and being motivated by emotion.

Alonzo hopes to begin his directing career in the action genre because it is what he is most comfortable with, but he also looks forward to the day when he will be able to direct a crime thriller, a historical biopic, or even an animated feature.

The Batman has already debuted in theaters around the world, grossing $134 million in its first weekend.
