The Department of Tourism in Bicol (DOT-5) is reminding tourists to use and transact with accredited operators and service providers as the summer vacation and Holy Week approach.

In an interview on Monday, DOT-5 Director Herbie Aguas said that the safety and quality of service are guaranteed when tourists choose accredited tourism-related establishments.

“When you deal with DOT-accredited establishments and operators, you are safe. DOT-accredited companies treat guests, whether they are foreign or domestic, with the utmost care and commitment to promoting the region. The safety of tourists is our top priority when it comes to the services provided. We want to ensure nothing unfortunate happens to them while visiting our area,” Aguas said.

He said DOT-accredited establishments, travel agencies, and car operators have proper documentation which tourists can easily request to see.

“When inquiring, ask if they are DOT-accredited and request updated documents. They can also check the establishments’ social media accounts for their DOT accreditation,” Aguas added.

He assured the public that all accredited tourism personnel have participated in various training and seminars that address the evolving demands of the tourism industry.

“Tourists can have confidence that they are engaging with legitimate tourism businesses that adhere to ethical practices and provide excellent customer service. From our tour guides to business establishments, we ensure a high standard of service. Travel operators receive training or seminars to prioritize the safety of passengers,” he explained.

Aguas noted that the agency continues to evaluate accredited hotels, resorts, restaurants, and tourism farms to guarantee that tourists enjoy a comfortable and safe stay in Bicol.

He added that the Bicol Region offers a variety of attractions aside from the famous Mayon Volcano, including stunning beaches and coral reefs for underwater enthusiasts.

Bicol is known for the whale shark interactions in Donsol, Sorsogon, the white beach of Caramoan in Camarines Sur, the surfing beaches of Bagasbas in Camarines Norte and Baras in Catanduanes, the Rodeo Festival in Masbate, the black sand beaches and farm tourism in Albay, and the Mayon Skyline, which is popular with both pilgrims and tourists.

Aguas also added that the region is known for its famous pinangat, Bicol express, Pili tarts and candies, and Latik, pancit bato, and baluko. (PNA)
