Several events have been indefinitely postponed since the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. To keep the audience, performers, athletes, and staff safe, events organizers had to get creative. In the ballet world, one competition quickly adapted to the new normal by conducting their event online.
The Stars of Canaan Dance competition shifted the normal onstage ballet competition to an online ballet competition. Participants from every corner of the world had to video their dance numbers and submit them to the competition. Of course, only raw videos with no editing or added special effects were permitted.
Two incredibly skilled ballerinas represented the Philippines in the competition. Sophia Lucito, 10, and Herbie Bobier, 9, hail from the Dance Theatre Arts Philippines based in Makati City. Both of them competed in the 9-10 years old category.
Among nearly 100 participants, it is no surprise that the young girls were included in the shortlisted 47 competitors. The performance of the shortlisted candidates will be broadcasted on October 4, 2020.
The Stars of Canaan Dance competition is a prestigious ballet competition and the two prima ballerinas in the making will surely make their country proud.
Whether you are a ballerina or not, it is common knowledge that ballet is an intense sport that requires many physical capabilities. That is why Sophia and Herbie being shortlisted is no result of luck but of pure talent at such a young age. No matter the result of the finals, they already brought great pride and honor to the country.
