The construction of the exclusive quarantine facility meant for officers and personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was delayed by a week due to several workers testing positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In an update on Facebook, the PCG said the project, which was slated to be completed within September, will instead be completed on Monday (October 5).
“Several workers contracted Covid-19, hence, the construction activities were temporarily suspended to give time for their recovery,” the PCG said.
It noted that the opening of the quarantine facility will be in conjunction with the celebration of the PCG’s 119th founding anniversary.
Once completed, the facility can accommodate up to 224 of the organization’s officers or personnel at any given time under the care of the PCG Medical Service.
To date, the PCG has 21 cases of reinfection or those who have recovered but were again infected by Covid-19 due to their role as front-line personnel in several government programs such as the free ride for healthcare workers. (PNA)
